Holy hauntings 🎃 👻 It’s #weirdwednesday and we’ve got another local haunt to feature. Just a few steps away from our New Westminster Campus is the provincial court house on Carnarvon Street. Don’t let that cheery red brick fool you - underneath the floors of this building is a tunnel that was used to transport prisoners from ships to the courthouse, where they’d be tried for their crimes. If found guilty, it wasn’t jail time they faced, it was the noose. Go down the concrete steps and you’ll see the bronze statue of Judge Matthew Baillie Begbie, also known as “The Hanging Judge” - yikes. Rumour has it, the ghosts of the executed men haunt the tunnels to this day. Talk about a life sentence...
Grow tomatoes grow! 🍅 Sunny days like this are just what we need for a good harvest. ☀️ The Biology department is growing these tomatoes outside the greenhouse on the 3rd Floor at New West Campus.
The spooky season is upon us, and we’re kicking it off with our first-ever #weirdwednesday. We will be featuring local haunts - get it! - every Wednesday to get you in the Halloween spirit. Our first haunt is not too far from our new Anvil Centre Extension. Formerly the spot of The Keg, and currently home to Kelly O’Bryan’s Restaurant, this iconic brick building has been the topic of conversation for supernatural fans for years. Whispers from workers of the restaurants report voices, spooky faces and suspicious shadows. Check out the grid next Wednesday for the next #weirdwednesday local haunt. 👻
