Don’t miss out – here’s what’s happening around campus this week!

Staying active at Douglas helps you feel like you’re part of the College community. You never know what awaits you when you join in on the fun! Perhaps, you will make new friends or even discover a new hobby! Kick off your week with some fun, interesting and entertaining campus events taking place in and around Douglas.

Campus Events this Week:

Monday, Nov. 25

  • Zappostrophe: Music Tech faculty and friends – 7:30pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, New Westminster Campus. The Douglas College Music Department presents Zappostrophe, Music Technology faculty and friends performing the music of Frank Zappa. Free admission.

Tuesday, Nov. 26

  • DSU holiday special! – 10:30 in the Coquitlam Campus atrium. It’s nearing the end of the semester and what better way to celebrate than with some holiday cheer! Join the DSU for some free food (butter chicken and chana masala), photos with Santa and holiday movies! Movies start at 10:30am: Elf, The Grinch & Home Alone. Food will be served at 11:30am. There will be gluten free and vegan options available.
  • Fall concert series: An evening of jazz – 7:30 – 8:30pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, New Westminster Campus. Enjoy an evening of jazz performed by the DC Dues Band and special guests. Free and open to the public.  
  • Field school studies info sessions: Italy – 2:45 – 3:45pm in room N1222 at the New Westminster Campus and then again from 5-6pm in room N3406 at the New West Campus. Learn more about the Italy field school studies for Summer 2020. Study four weeks at Douglas and then two weeks in Florence and enjoy excursions to Pisa, Padua and Venice!

Wednesday, Nov. 27

  • DSU frosty crafting festivities – 11am – 2pm in the New Westminster concourse. Embrace the Holiday season and come make ornaments and holiday cards for your special ones!
  • Fall concert series: Winds and percussion in concert – 7:30 – 8:30pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, New Westminster Campus. The 2nd installment in this concert series, enjoy the DC Concert Band and special guests. Free and open to the public.  

Thursday, Nov. 28

  • FusionFest 2019 – 7-9pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, New Westminster Campus. Enjoy a free concert featuring the Douglas College Fusion Band and special guests. Open to the public.

  • Intramurals: Dodgeball – 4:30–6pm in the Pinetree Community Centre near the Coquitlam Campus. Intramurals are a great way to stay active, meet new friends, build campus community and try a variety of new sports. All Coquitlam Campus intramurals are offered at the Pinetree Community Centre, next to the campus, in Gym 3. Bring your Student ID card and proof of your current class registration.

Friday, Nov. 29

  • Fall concert series: Composition concert – 7:30 – 8:30pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, New Westminster Campus. The final installment in this concert series, our student composition students will perform their new musical creations. Free and open to the public.

Ongoing Campus Events

  • Collaborative Alchemy – 10am – 7:30pm at the Amelia Douglas Gallery, New Westminster Campus. From Nov. 1 – Dec. 14, enjoy the artistic exhibit by three unique plant-based visual artists, Pierre Leichner, Phyllis Schwartz and Edward Peck, with their collection of 29 pieces of 2D and 3D visual art. Admission is always free.
  • New Westminster Campus Fall fitness classes – Monday–Thursday from 8am–8pm and Fridays from 8am–6pm, at the Fitness Centre in the New Westminster Campus. View the scheduled classes, which range from Power Yoga to Zumba. Come get fit and healthy!
  • Coquitlam Campus Fall fitness classes – Monday–Sunday from 8am–10pm, at the Pinetree Community Centre. View the scheduled classes, which range from Pilates to Belly Dancing. Come get fit and healthy!
