Humans of DC: Helping through involvement
By Douglas College Student Life
“My experience as a first year student at Douglas College has so far been extraordinary. Coming from a small high school to a large post-secondary institution is a big change. I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many interesting people from all over the world. This first year I was able to discover the path I want to take in order to achieve my goals of becoming a nurse. My tip for new students: get involved! There are so many extra-curricular activities and events at Douglas that give you the opportunity to meet new people and form friendships!
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted a career where I could help others. I chose nursing because I want to make a difference in people’s lives by looking after them when they are sick. I am very outgoing, social and caring. I can use these abilities to ensure the people who are in hospital are comfortable, safe and happy even though they are going through a tough time. I joined the Student Ambassador program because I wanted to represent Douglas College and show new students coming into Douglas all the opportunities that await them. Being involved in this program has allowed me to make new friends and become a better leader. I’m looking forward to the new student orientation so I can share my great experiences at Douglas with new students.”
