Douglas College talk will look at how to make sense of medical research

When the media tells you, “A new study shows…,” how do you know whether you can believe it? Studies can reach false conclusions for a variety of reasons. Using examples from both mainstream and alternative medicine, Dr. Harriet Hall will demonstrate how to look beyond the results and view studies with a critical eye.

Hall is a retired family physician and former Air Force flight surgeon. She writes about medicine, so-called complementary and alternative medicine, science, quackery, and critical thinking. She recently published Women Aren’t Supposed to Fly: The Memoirs of a Female Flight Surgeon.
